How We Built Sun-Kissed Resort’s Brand From Scratch

"The result is a property that looks and feels like its own real business — because it is one."

When we took on Sun-Kissed Resort, there was no brand to speak of — just six cottages on a private stretch of Lake Huron beach in Oscoda, Michigan, and a name. No logo, no color palette, no site. That’s actually the situation we prefer to start from, because it means every visual decision gets made on purpose instead of inherited from a template.

The character came first, before any design work started. Sun-Kissed’s six cottages — thirteen bedrooms across them — sit right along the shoreline with a shared Lakeside Pavilion (grill, seating, and a projector for movie nights), so the brand needed to feel bright, casual, and a little playful — the opposite of a stiff corporate rental listing. That’s where the sun-and-wave visual language came from: custom icons built specifically for this property, not stock clip art pulled from a theme library.

From there, every piece got built to match: a direct booking site (so guests aren’t stuck choosing between a dozen identical-looking OTA listings), a full FAQ built for how people actually search — “Is it pet-friendly,” “Can I book the whole resort or just one cabin,” “What’s the cancellation policy” — answered directly instead of buried in a policies PDF. Sun-Kissed also supports booking the entire six-cottage property as one private rental, not just individual units, which meant the brand and the booking system had to work together, not as two separate afterthoughts.

The result is a property that looks and feels like its own real business — because it is one. That’s the same process every property in the Talo Stays portfolio goes through: character first, visuals second, and a booking experience built to match both.
